GSec Review

Well the title says it all, but for formality, this section covers the good, the bad and the ugly of the Student Heads of IIT Delhi’s various Boards. These boards form the mediators, the facilitators and arbitrator between the students and the administration. Another year, another semester but the same old General Secretaries. With half their tenure over, let us see how much they squirm under the microscope.

Is Inter IIT all about Sports?

Although, the name clearly mentions “Inter IIT Sports Meet”, but is it actually just the game that matters. Well no. Inter IIT is way more than just a tournament. While at the court, your opponent might be your enemy. You sweat it all out, in order to bring pride to your institute and yourself. That is what a game is essentially for; To bring out the best in you, as a person and as a performer. But all of this is a mere subset of what the Inter IIT stands for. This ten day festival celebrates the coming together of some of the sharpest Indian minds, it celebrates friendship and it celebrates rivalry. When people from different places get to meet each other, have meals together, get to laugh at something embarrassing, that is when true friendship is built.

A word with Rahul Jhajharia, the Gold Miner.

For all those who think aisa sirf movies me hota hai, here is Rahul Jhajharia,JJ as he is commonly known, for you. 4 Gold medals (800m, 1500m, 5000m, 4*400m relay) in his maiden Inter IIT appearance. But there is more to his story than just these medals. It’s a story of passion towards the sport, dedication towards practice and devotion to one’s Guru.

Opening Ceremony: 51st Inter IIT Sports Meet

The Sporting Fiesta: IIT Delhi 3rd in March-Past

As inter-IIT officially begins, we walk down the inauguration ceremony, and an amazing march-past by IIT Delhi.
Every year, since 1961, sports teams from all IITs line up to participate in the most prestigious celebration of all, the inter IIT championship. This year’s Inter IIT had to fill the void of the previous year’s event washed away by the floods. And the opening ceremony has said it loud and clear, ‘Brace yourselves, Inter IIT is here.’

The IITD contingent, along with its 22 sister IITs, lined up for the march-past ceremony in the athletics field. It was not just a showcase event, in fact it carried ten marks

The Placement Saga

Another Placement season. Another season of lucrative offers for some and heartbreak for others. Only this time around, there were a little too many heartbreaks. Far more than one associates with an institution like IIT Delhi . Despite 270 organisations offering nearly 400 job roles and 20 lavish international offers being tabled, the general feeling among the students, both the seniors and the juniors, is that of disappointment.

There was definitely a huge pressure on the placement season this year, considering heavy participation from 5th year dual and M.Tech students.

A Success Story : Inter-IIT Aquatics 2016

Recently, IIT Delhi Aquatics team came home to a hero’s reception. And deservedly so. After all, they have made us proud in this year’s Inter-IIT Aquatics Meet held in IIT Kanpur.

Every team works diligently in a quest to improve until it reaches the pinnacle of sporting excellence and this year’s result shows that IIT Delhi’s aquatics team is marching (or should I say swimming) on the right path. Last year, IIT Delhi Boys’ swimming team secured 5th position and this year they secured the 3rd spot.

Waterpolo #IITD

In the fifth-sixth playoff position for water polo, Girnar managed to defeat Kumaon 5-1. Drama ensued in the beginning, when Girnar turned up with an incomplete team. GSec Ishan Tyagi himself had to join in, to make up for the deficit. After a deadlocked first quarter, Divyanshu Aryan opened the account for Girnar with a goal in the second quarter. Atul scored a hat-trick, and Shubh scored a single goal.
