On a cold and windy night, Girnar were too hot for Udaigiri as they registered their first win of the
pool stage. Matchday 1 of the new semester had provided a couple of entertaining and high scoring
clashes, and a sizeable crowd from each hostel had assembled at the touchline. Girnar were clad in
their plain all-whites, whereas the Udai “Eagles” donned sky blue. Girnar showed the difference in
quality between the two sides right from kickoff, with a flurry of attacks with Udai just managed to
keep at bay. Aman misseda golden chance to put Girnar ahead in just the 3rd minute.
Then in the 15th
minute a great passing move brought the ball to Shreyash, who tried to chip it over the Udai keeper,
only to see it bounce just wide of the post. The Girnar attack was fuelled by the creative play of
Ishan Tyagi and the pace of Midhun, but it could not find any joy in the final third of the pitch. Udai
had the odd chance throughout the half that barely tested the keeper. Just before half-time, in the
28th minute, a great corner delivered by Girnar was met by Tanmay who shot straight into the
The second half saw a brief display of positivity by Udai, who tried creating attacks of their own
through the bullish Sunny Rana. But Girnar were continuously knocking on Udai’s door, and finally
got their breakthrough in the 38th minute when a corner created confusion in the Udai box and
Kushagra slotted home. Girnar snatched a quick second in the 40th minute when Tyagi drove a low
shot which took a deflection of an Udai defender before hitting the net. Girnar had a great chance to
make it three in the 58th minute when Aman wriggled past three players but scuffed his shot wide.
Udai also missed from the resulting counter when Divyansh, one-on-one with the Girnar keeper, saw
his shot saved by a foot. The final whistle blew to loud cheers and satisfied faces in the Girnar camp.
