Wednesday, Nov 18, Morning at IITD saw the visit of a 70 member Chinese youth delegation comprising media activists, entrepreneurs, economists and educationalists.
This visit was a part of the 200 member delegation's visit to four of the prime educational institutions in Delhi that day. The India-China Youth Exchange Programme is an initiative by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, started in 2006. Students from IIT have also visited China as part of the Indian Delegation during previous years. The Chinese delegation at IIT was welcomed by Associate Dean, Prof Aditya Mittal, and the student board members from IIT. What followed was a fun filled and memorable interaction.
In order to give them a sneak-peek into the life at IIT Delhi, the delegates were taken on a tour through the campus, starting with our favourite hangout zones - Wind T and Ex Hall, followed by the Seminar and Dogra Hall. They were even taken to the Dogra hall terrace to show them the architectural marvel behind the hyperbolic paraboloid roof. Following this, they were taken to the Student Activity Centre. The members thoroughly enjoyed themselves playing TT and badminton with the IIT students and seeing the work of our Photography and Fine Arts Clubs.
Finally, the two groups engaged in a discussion about their experience in India. Their leader highlighted the importance of this exchange programme for strengthening the historical ties with India and furthering this partnership. The members expressed how they found a lot of similarities in Indian and Chinese cultures. They appreciated the friendly attitude and cultural richness they witnessed here, especially at IIT Delhi. The highlight was a beautiful Hindi song performed by one of the delegates who spoke flawless Hindi. After an enjoyable interaction among all, we exchanged tokens of gratitude and bid adieu to our international neighbours.
