NSS IITD, in association with Safely Home held an engaging panel talk and discussion on the 16th of September, 2015 in Dogra Hall. The topic of Discussion was “Rescuing Road Accident victims how and when?”

and the panelists were Mr. Mohammad Imran (Chairman and Founder Trustee, Safe Road Foundation), Prof. PVM Rao (Professor, Dept Of Mech. Engg.) and Dr. SK Maheshwari (Veteran Surgeon and Advisor to several corporate hospitals) and it was moderated by MR. SC Nagpal (former IAS officer). The panel discussion was centered around the stark number of road kill accidents that occur in India, mostly due to drunk driving, error on the part of the driver, fatigued driving, etc. Dr. SK Maheswari instructed the audience about the requisite steps to be taken by us, if we happen to witness a road accident. Calling an ambulance is extremely important and is the first step that has to be taken, followed by, his strict advice to not touch the patient if it is a serious case. Prof PVM Rao enlightened the audience about some innovative ideas that students of IITD had come up to mitigate road accidents. These include, a thermal radiation sensing coal tar road that melts to stop over-speeding cars, and an automatic signalling system that controls the flow of traffic. The session ended with the launch of the Safely Home App and the orientation on the Road Safety Campaign of NSS IITD. All in all, the session was an eye opening one for the audience, engaging them and educating them with the requisite knowledge to take care of themselves and others in case of a road accident. Also it served as a warning to the people out there against irresponsible and reckless driving.
