The NSS orientation for freshers was organized on 7 August in the Dogra Hall.
The orientation started with a short introduction by General Secretary about NSS IITD’s vision and goals. Then the faculty coordinator of NSS-IITD Prof. Rajesh Prasad welcomed the freshers and said that, this is the place where people find like-minded people and the joy of contributing to society. After this the real part of orientation began, NSS team took the audience into a journey through presentations, chocolate quizzes, and performances to show them the areas of work handled by NSS-IITD team, hours policy and the success stories attached to various projects like: Aarohan, Vidya, Lakshyam, Munirka, Toys from Trash, collabaration with Medicine Baba, NAB, visits to Orphanage, visits to DNIP care, visits to old age home, Blood Donation Camps, Nature Walks, Awareness Drives for Organ Donation, Cancer awareness, Tackling Substance Abuse, etc. It also introduced them to Social Innovation Cell (SIC), Stree, and various Internships offered by NSS.
Rajiv, a student of Aarohan teaching project who scored 91% in 12th board also came and thanked the NSS team for their efforts. I would say that the NSS team handled the long orientation very efficiently, taking care that the audience did not get bored. There were beautiful performances by children of Vidya project, Music Masti project and by NAB students. The performances were well received and the performers received a thunderous applaud from everyone. Whoever who missed the orientation and wishes to join NSS can know more about the projects from NSS website (nss.iitd.ac.in) or from the NSS Executives of the respective hostels. Even if you don’t opt for NSS you can still be a part of it as a volunteer and serve the society.
