The Open House of IITD, the single biggest day to exhibit an extensive collection of innovative research and product development projects held annually on its premises, kicked off with an inaugural lecture to inspire hundreds of students thronging to get a feel of the scientific temperament of this wonderful institution.
Held in Dogra Hall with a live broadcast to the Seminar Hall, the lecture started with the Director, Prof R.K.Shevgaonkar, extending a warm welcome and motivating the bright minds to use their knowledge for the betterment of mankind. Prof. B. Jayaram was the next speaker and gave a talk about how we could help in the eradication of disease. He gave us a valuable insight into research done by IITians in the field of Bioinformatics and Computation Biology. He has made a program to draw the 3D model of the tertiary structure of amino acids. This program outdoes previous international programs and has a prolific success rate. Terming it as “Camp Bhageerath” he called it a milestone in the persevering journey to the crest of Everest. Calling out to the young minds he explained that this could be a massive breakthrough and a great opportunity for them to contribute to this rapidly developing field and make a name for themselves. Getting close to 15,00 hits a day this free for all computational code is the tale of an inspired mind who continues to exhort students to dream and persevere in the face of adversity. The lecture concluded with Prof. Joby Joseph urging the students to explore the projects made by students. The enthusiastic students made a beeline for the doors and an entrance into a new world.
